A businessman was shot dead after being robbed in broad daylight in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka. The incident took place in the Golam Bazar area of the upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, Jubayer Hossain (32), is the son of Mir Habibur Rahman of Majid Para in the area. He used to trade bricks and sand in the Golam Bazar area.

South Keraniganj Police Station OC Mazharul Islam confirmed this information. Police went to the spot, rescued Jubayer and sent him to the Mitford Medical College Morgue.

Initially, it is believed that the murder was committed due to a dispute over the brick and sand business. Tension is prevailing in the area over the murder. Due to this, a clash broke out between two groups in the Masjid Par area of Shubhadhya Uttarpara, South Keraniganj at 1:30 pm. At least 10 people were injured in this. Among them, Babu Khan, son of Safar Ali Khan, has been admitted to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital.

Locals said that Zubair, a brick and sand businessman from Golambazar, had been in a business dispute with the Molla Group for a long time. There was also a dispute over land between them. On Saturday, at around 11:30 am, Zubair was attacked by the Molla Group’s right-hand man, Sobahan Mia. At that time, when people from the Molla Group chased Zubair, he entered the office and was beaten. There, the terrorists hacked and shot him dead.

The deceased’s elder brother Swapan Hossain said that the terrorists of the Molla Group ambushed my brother Zubair over a brick and sand business dispute. He had been trading bricks, sand and illegal land for 16 years by changing his position. He was out of the area for a month after August 5. To sustain his business, he joined the BNP by giving flowers to BNP executive committee member and South Keraniganj Thana BNP president Nipun Roy Chowdhury. Then he became reckless again.

The deceased’s wife, Sabana Begum, said that Molla Faruk, who had just joined the BNP from the Awami League, threatened my husband in the morning. Later, his man Sobahan Mia called my husband on the phone and hacked and shot him to death.
