Students of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute have held a protest march and sit-in program as part of the central program to achieve 6-point demands in Sylhet.
They held the program at the Polytechnic Institute campus at 2:30 pm on Friday (April 18). At least 500 students from different academic years of the institution participated in it.
Earlier, around 2 pm, students started gathering on the campus with a procession wearing white shrouds on their heads. At this time, the campus premises were filled with various slogans. Later, the students took out a procession from there. The procession ended at Jitu Mia Point via Khojarkhala, Kazirbazar Bridge in the city. Later, the students stayed there for some time. This caused traffic jams on Bandarbazar and Lamabazar roads in the city.
In the program, the students said that the government and the ministry are delaying in accepting the demands of the polytechnic students. Yesterday, the students were called away on the pretext of a meeting with the education advisor. But that meeting did not take place either. Therefore, as part of the central program, a protest procession is being held with white shrouds tied around their heads. They also warned that if the demands are not accepted, a stricter program will be given later.
