Dhaka //
Mirza Abbas, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Paddy Sheesh party in Dhaka-8 constituency and a member of the party’s standing committee, said, “Allah and the people are the ones who give seats. The people’s vote is the only source of power. No party or group is the one who gives seats to anyone; Allah and the people are the final decision makers on this issue.”
He said these things to reporters during a public meeting in the capital’s Malibagh and Shahjahanpur areas on Sunday. Earlier, he participated in the award distribution ceremony of a friendly football match at the Shahjahanpur Railway Colony Maitree Sangha ground.
Mirza Abbas said, “Just as the people of the area voted for me with love in 1991, 1996 and 2001, today they will elect me again, considering my and my party’s activities, InshaAllah.”
Regarding the recent statement of the Jamaat Ameer, he said, “Various questions are being raised about the Jamaat Ameer’s statement on family cards and employment.” They say, not unemployment allowance, but employment creation – the issue will be evaluated by the people.
In response to another question, Mirza Abbas said, a candidate said that they will not give us any seats in Dhaka city. My question – who is the owner of giving seats? The owner of giving seats is Allah and the people. Speaking above the people is arbitrariness and undemocratic behavior. Where do they get the strength to say these things? Now it seems that some special force is trying to do something through electoral fraud, which the people will resist, God willing.
In response to the question whether an independent candidate will return to BNP if elected or not – he said that it is completely the personal matter of that candidate and it is not appropriate to comment on it.
In response to the question of journalists, he said, they are using all the weapons needed to harm a person. False documentaries are being made with artificial intelligence, social media has been filled with bot armies. There is no truth to all this. People of this class lie in front of the nation. We saw them in 1971 and 1986. They are never beneficial for the nation.
Expressing concern about the election environment, he said, I want the election to be fair and acceptable. But the talk of some parties and the behavior of a section of the government makes it seem like ‘Something is wrong, Dal Mein Kuch Kala Hai’. However, the people of Bangladesh are always aware and protesting.
He said, in 1971, the people defeated the Pak army by wearing lungis barefoot. We resisted the Awami League, we resisted Ershad; this time too, all conspiracies will be resisted, God willing.
