Irregularities that persisted over the last 17 years had become the norm. Subsequently, during the tenure of the interim government, a “mob culture” or collective disorder emerged in the country. These observations were made by Md. GK Gaus, a Whip of the National Parliament. He stated that such a situation is undesirable and emphasized the need to move past this state of affairs to establish the rule of law.

MP Gaus made these remarks on Monday while addressing a meeting convened to coordinate the overall law and order situation, as well as development and public welfare activities, in Sunamganj district.

Whip GK Gaus noted that the country seeks to break free from the pattern where irregularities had become the standard practice over the past 17 years. He highlighted that, since assuming office, the government has prioritized establishing the rule of law. He acknowledged the difficulty of this task, noting that a culture of disregarding the law had taken root among the people due to years of non-compliance.

Gaus further stated that the Prime Minister has clearly declared that the party will not bear responsibility for any individual’s misdeeds. Regardless of how significant an individual’s past sacrifices or contributions may have been, neither the BNP nor the state will accept liability for their wrongful actions.

The meeting featured detailed discussions on the law and order situation in Sunamganj, along with various development and public welfare initiatives. Special guests in attendance included Members of Parliament (MPs) Kalim Uddin Ahmed (Sunamganj-5), Nurul Islam Nurul (Sunamganj-4), Mohammad Kaysar Ahmed (Sunamganj-3), and Kamruzzaman Kamrul (Sunamganj-1).

Mohammad Minhajur Rahman, the Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, presided over the meeting. Earlier that afternoon, GK Gaus, the Central Organizing Secretary of the BNP, held an exchange meeting with party leaders and activists at a hotel auditorium near the town’s old bus station.
