Sylhet Government Agragami Girls’ High School & College Wins Science Debate Competition

Sylhet Government Agragami Girls’ High School & College emerged as the champion in the Sylhet district round of the BFF-Samakal 12th National Science Debate Festival. Blue-Bird School & College secured the runner-up position. Israt Jahan Majumder, the team leader of the winning squad, was named the best speaker, scoring 214.5 points.

The debate festival took place on Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the art gallery of Government Agragami Girls’ High School & College in the city’s Zindabazar area. Debaters from eight educational institutions in Sylhet participated in the event.

Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun inaugurated the festival. He praised Samakal’s initiative and stated that measures would be taken to foster debaters in every school across Sylhet. He noted that such debates play a crucial role in cultivating a scientific mindset among students.

Presided over by Samakal Bureau Chief Mukit Rahmani, the event was attended by Zaeda Golsan Siddika, Headmistress of Agragami Girls’ High School, and Abdul Basit Molla, Assistant Commissioner of the District Administration.

In addition to the champion and runner-up teams, other participating institutions included Sylhet Government Pilot High School, Scholars’ Home (Majortila), Knowledge Garden School & College, Student Home School & College, PDB High School, and Kazi Jalal Uddin High School.

Prizes were awarded to the champion and runner-up teams during the prize-giving ceremony held in the afternoon. The ceremony was presided over by Tamim Rahman Chowdhury, President of Suhrid Samabesh Sylhet, and moderated by Foysal Ahmed Bablu, Staff Reporter of Samakal’s Sylhet Bureau.

The panel of judges included Mokaddes Babul, a member of the central presidium of the Bangladesh Abritti Samannay Parishad; Safwat Adiba Hiya of the SUST Debating Club; and Ashfakur Rahman Adi, former president of the Group of Liberal Debaters Bangladesh. Teachers Ishtiaq Munshi and Mahbub Hossain, *Samakal* staff photojournalist Yusuf Ali, politician Talukdar Maqbul Hossain, and *Suhrid* members Rajib Ghosh, Tofa Alam, Md. Ashraf, Munira Rahmani Maha, Abdullah Sindid, and Md. Junaid, among others, were present at the closing ceremony.
