Police recovered the dead body of a night watchman from Uttarbazar An-Noor Tower in Kanaighat Sadar Upazila of Sylhet. On Tuesday (September 17) at noon, the Kanaighat Thana police recovered the body from the elevator hole of the tower.

The deceased is Abdul Jalil (60), son of deceased Akhlu Mia of Lalarchak village of the upazila. However, the police immediately said that no injury marks were found on the victim’s body. Initially, it is believed that he died accidentally while on duty: he fell into the elevator pit.

According to local sources, like other days, he went to that tower to perform the duties of the night guard on Monday. The next day, Tuesday, he did not return home. That day on Tuesday afternoon, one of his colleagues went to the tower and saw Abdul Jalil’s body lying in a pit filled with water for making the elevator. At one stage, with the help of the market committee, when he reported the matter to the police, Kanaighat police station reached the spot and recovered the dead body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Kanaighat police station SI Suhail Mahmud has confirmed the truth of this matter. He said that the details will be known when the autopsy report is available.
