He was serious about going fishing with his grandmother to his uncle. But he never imagined that he would drown in the water and return as a corpse. Such a tragic incident took place in Rashidpur Howar (Bill) area of Dakshin Surma Upazila of Sylhet.
According to local sources, Tahmid Hossain (10), a fatherless child of South Sunamganj, after his mother’s second marriage in Kolkata, India, he moved to his uncle’s house in Qutubpur between Nazirbazar in South Surma Rashidpur area. He was living happily with uncle and grandmother in a house there. He was a fourth standard student in a madrasa in the local area. But in a cruel twist of fate, on Friday (September 20) afternoon, Tahmid’s maternal uncle went fishing at a bank in Rashidpur area near the house. Later, Tahmid got serious with Nani and he too would go fishing to his uncle. At one point, when he left for his uncle, he drowned in the water of the bill on the way and disappeared. Finally, after much searching in the afternoon and evening, he was not found. Locals rescued Tahmid’s body when it floated on the water at around 9:30 am on Saturday.
Meanwhile, after receiving the news of the incident, South Surma police reached the surface and recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of South Surma police station Abul Hossain said that the child’s mother has been contacted. He will come, whether the autopsy will be done or not will be decided later.
