Haji Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, said that if the Awami League government had held fair elections in the past, BNP would have won in every seat. They were in power by stealing the votes of the people by showing their power due to this fear. They established dictatorship. He said that they had forgotten about the power of the people. On August 5, the people showed their power by rejecting this vote-stealing government. If the current interim government organizes fair elections, BNP will win by a huge margin.
Also present at the Meet the Press program organized at the Srimangal Upazila Press Club on Friday afternoon were Srimangal Upazila BNP President Nurul Alam Siddiqui, General Secretary Taj Uddin Taju, Vice President Md. Badsha Mia Kajal, former member of Moulvibazar District Council Mashiur Rahman Ripon, Jubo Dal leader Mohiuddin Jharu and Titu Ahmed.
Moderated by Press Club General Secretary Bikul Chakraborty, the press club’s executive president Shamim Akter Hossain Mintu and editor of Dainik Moumachi Kantha Sheikh Sirajul Islam spoke on behalf of the journalists.
BNP leaders said at the event that the previous government filed more than fifty cases against Haji Mujib and his leaders and activists. Whenever he went to do any work in the area, he had to face the police. Even after this, Haji Mujib did not stop working. He has been working for the people constantly. He has built schools, colleges, madrasas, charity hospitals, and numerous roads and donated to mosques and temples with his own money. This is still intact and will continue to be the case in the future.
Srimangal Upazila BNP President Narul Alam Siddiqui said, they could not even offer Eid prayers due to fear of the police. They had to spend many Eids in jail in false cases filed by the oppressive Awami League government. And Upazila BNP General Secretary Md. Tajuddin Taju said, Awami League MP Vice President Abdus Shahid has only looted the area since he was in power for the past 15 years and has not done any development in the area. Jubo Dal leader Mohiuddin Jharu Mia said, the corruption of the Awami League MP from Moulvibazar-4 constituency was at its peak. He deprived countless people by spending crores of rupees of the government and took various facilities including Jalalabad gas line, electricity and so on to his house.
