Dhaka //
Written proposals will be sought for formulating recommendations, not dialogue with political parties. This information was given by the Chairman of the Constitution Reform Commission, Ali Riaz.
He said this in response to a question from journalists at a press conference held at the LD Hall of the National Assembly on Sunday (November 3) afternoon.
Ali Riaz said, there is no opportunity to formulate a constitution by ignoring the anti-discrimination student movement and the mass uprising. If we want to implement the aspirations of the people, the issue of the mass uprising of 24 should undoubtedly be included in the constitution. If there was no mass uprising, this commission would not have existed. We would not even be present here.
He said, everyone in the Constitution Reform Committee has been working on the constitution for many years. I can say from my experience, I have been trying to understand the constitution for the past two to two and a half years. So there is no chance to call this commission inexperienced.
The chairman of the reform commission further said that the term of the parliament will be 4 years. Whether a person can be the prime minister more than twice will be discussed with the stakeholders.
In the continuation of the long struggle, the promised objectives of the 1971 War of Independence are equality, human dignity and social justice and the establishment of a non-discriminatory democratic state system in light of the mass uprising of the students and the public in 2024; Reflecting the people’s aspirations for the establishment of a participatory democratic state expressed through the mass uprising of the students and the public in 2024; Measures to ensure effective participation of the people at all levels in politics and state governance.
In addition, the purpose of the constitutional reform will be to prevent the emergence of any kind of fascist regime in the future; Separation of the three organs of the state – the executive branch, the legislature and the judiciary and the balance of power; Decentralization and adequate empowerment of state power and institutions; Taking necessary measures to ensure effective independence and autonomy of state, constitutional and legally created institutions.
