A youth named Abdur Rahman was killed in a shooting by rival in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place in the Nayabazar area of Hoi Kang in the upazila on Sunday night.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gias Uddin said that two youths named Abdur Rahman and Zahed were talking at a shop on Sunday night. At one point, an argument broke out between them. Later, when it escalated to a fight, Zahed shot Abdur Rahman with a pistol he had and fled. Locals immediately took Abdur Rahman to Teknaf Hospital. He later died on the way to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Gias Uddin also said that Teknaf Police Station has 14 cases against Zahed, including a drug murder case.
However, locals say that the shooting incident occurred due to a dispute over drug trafficking. When Abdur Rahman died in the shooting, the relatives of the deceased set fire to the other party’s house. Several houses were burnt down. The situation in the area is currently tense.
