A mob beat up former mayor of Gournadi municipality in Barisal and former GS of the Gournadi Students’ Union, Awami League leader Alauddin Bhuiyan (69) and handed him over to Babuganj police station. Upon receiving the information, Babuganj police station rescued him and handed him over to the Gournadi police station.

The incident took place at around 12 noon on Thursday at Mirganj Ferry Ghat in Babuganj upazila.

Babuganj police station OC Sheikh Aminul Islam said that after receiving the information that former mayor of Gournadi Alauddin Bhuiyan was beaten up at Mirganj Ferry Ghat, he reached the spot with his accompanying force on Thursday afternoon, rescued him and handed him over to the Gournadi police station.

Gournadi Model Police Station OC Md. Yunus Mia said that Alauddin Bhuiyan was arrested as a suspect in a case filed at Gournadi Police Station on November 15 on charges of attack and vandalism during the Awami League regime and handed over to the Barisal Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

Barisal Metropolitan Chhatra Dal Vice-President Md. Azizul Islam said that we have heard that former municipal mayor of Gournadi, Awami League leader Alauddin Bhuiyan, was caught by an angry mob at Mirganj Ferry Ghat on his way to Muladi, beaten up and handed over to Babuganj Police Station.

Former municipal mayor Alauddin Bhuiyan’s son Anik Bhuiyan said that his father was attacked in Mirganj Ferry Ghat area of ​​Babuganj Upazila on Thursday afternoon while he was on his way to Muladi.
