BNP leaders and activists acquitted in police assault case in Moulvibazar

Several leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal have been acquitted in the police assault case in Moulvibazar.

The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman gave this verdict on Thursday (December 5) morning.

It is known that in 2018, when former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia came to pay her respects at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine in Sylhet, thousands of leaders and activists of Moulvibazar district BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal gathered in Sherpur to congratulate her, during which a clash broke out due to police attack. A case was filed against about 70 people in this incident. During the long-running case, 9 accused were kept for trial and the rest were acquitted. The verdict in this case was GR 29/18. The verdict acquitted accused GM Moktadir Raju, Gazi Maruf Mia, Sarwar Majumder Emon, Sirajul Islam, Afian Chowdhury Shipu, Mahfuzur Rahman and others. The main accused in the case, former chairman Raja Mia, had died earlier.
