Police have arrested two people with various Indian goods worth 5.3 million taka from Shayestaganj in Habiganj district.
Shayestaganj Police Station OC Dilip Kant Nath confirmed this on Saturday (December 7) night.
The arrested are – Md. Habib Howlader (30), son of Nazrul Howlader of Sadar Bera village in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district, and Md. Rishad Mia (19), son of Md. Rashed Mollah.
OC Dilip Kant Nath said that the police conducted a check post on the south side of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in front of the main gate of Habiganj Industrial Park-2 in Dakshin Barachar of the upazila. At that time, a Dhaka-bound (Dhaka Metro-T-24-4195) covered van was seized. During the search of the vehicle, 310 pieces of red and brown Indian sarees, 1,495 yards of Indian pants of various colors, and 6,300 pieces of small and large sunglasses were seized inside 26 small and large plastic bags. He further said that the value of these goods, which were illegally smuggled from India to Bangladesh by evading customs, would be 53 lakh 45 thousand taka. A case has been filed at the police station in this regard. The accused have been sent to court.
