Complaint to Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner to take legal action against gangs including Bangi Ratan Moni

Local residents have strongly demanded legal action against the mafia godfather of the land grabbing fraud ring in Sylhet, Ratan Moni Mohant alias Bangi Mohant, and his gang. In addition, to get rid of his conspiracy, nearly a hundred people have submitted a written complaint to the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner on Tuesday (December 12) demanding redress and bringing the land grabbers under the law.

According to the complaint source, the general public of Nathpara village of Islampur (Majortila) in Ward No. 32 of Sylhet City Corporation has demanded exemplary punishment by bringing Ratan Moni Mohant alias Bangi Mohant and his gang under the law immediately. In addition, the complaint mentions the assets of Ratan Moni, who is not earning income, worth nearly 100 crores of taka, money laundering abroad, embezzlement of crores of taka of government revenue through forgery, indiscriminate cutting and destruction of hills (tillas) and framing people of different classes and professions in cases motivated by conspiracy and falsehood.

Charges have been brought against Ratan Moni and his associates, although regular news has been published in various national and local newspapers and online news portals of the country about their illegal assets like hills built in a short time and their immoral activities of torture and oppression, but for mysterious reasons, the administration is not taking appropriate action. Recently, it has been highlighted that they are involved in a plot to murder and disappear a journalist. In the meantime, the journalist has filed a general diary at SMP Shahparan (RA) police station to save his life. Later, it is mentioned that he was physically tortured after being kidnapped.

The complaint further states that Ratan Mani Mohanty, in order to divert the attention of the administration, has filed a false complaint against the journalist at the Police Commissioner’s Office with the alleged signatures of some miscreants of his associates and people from different areas. They mentioned that he is involved in tender trade, filling of rivers and canals and Indian smuggling trade. The complainants have demanded immediate legal action against Ratan Mani Mohanty, his associates Jeevan Majumdar alias Jiblu, Dhirendra Deb Nath Nayan.

A source from the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office has confirmed the receipt of the complaint.
