Press Release //
On Monday (December 16) morning, the party leaders paid tribute by placing flowers at the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar.
After paying tribute, Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury told reporters, “Martyr President Ziaur Rahman declared independence on March 26, 1971 and fought shoulder to shoulder with the freedom-loving people of this country on the battlefield. On December 15, the Z Force led by Colonel Zia fought and liberated Sylhet. In the past 15 years, the country’s history has been distorted, and the new generation has been taught the wrong history. In fact, Martyr President Ziaur Rahman and Bangladesh are synonymous. Therefore, the new generation must be informed of the correct history of the Liberation War.”
Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi told reporters, “The Great Liberation War is a glorious chapter in our history. For the past 15 years, history has been distorted to give credit for everything to one person. Starting from the declaration of independence of martyr President Ziaur Rahman, all the contributions of the Liberation War have been denied. Now is the time to know and share the correct history. If martyred President Ziaur Rahman had not declared independence, we might not have been freed from the shackles of Golami.
Present at the time were – Sylhet District BNP Senior Vice President Advocate Ashiq Uddin Ashuk, Vice President Mamunur Rashid Mamun (Chaksu), Shah Jamal Nurul Huda, Fakhrul Islam Faruk, AKM Tarek Kalam, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Vice Presidents Ashraf Ali, Rahim Mallick and Hakim Ahmed, District BNP Joint Secretary Advocate Hasan Ahmed Patwary Ripon, Anwar Hossain Manik, Advocate Mominul Islam Momin, Kohinur Ahmed, Abul Kashem, Advocate Sayeed Ahmed and senior leaders of Sylhet District and Metropolitan BNP.
