A female passenger of a CNG-powered autorickshaw was killed after being hit by a truck loaded with soil on the Tamabil highway of Jaintapur Highway in Sylhet.

The deceased female passenger has been identified as Mayarun Nesa (40). She is the wife of Haji Shahid Ahmed of Lama Kutapara village in Gowainghat upazila.

According to police sources, the CNG-powered autorickshaw without a number plate carrying the deceased Mayarun was heading towards Sylhet on Sunday (January 12). When the autorickshaw reached a place called Karicherpul Kulaimura on the Tamabil highway around 11 am, it collided head-on with a drum truck (Reg. No. Dhaka Metro -D-11-6051) loaded with soil, causing the autorickshaw to twist and twist, killing the woman on the spot.

According to local sources, the truck that killed the deceased was transporting soil from a nearby land. Upon receiving the information, the Jaintapur Model Police Station and Tamabil Highway Police Station police teams reached the spot and recovered the woman’s body.

The officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station confirmed the matter. He said that the truck that killed the deceased has been seized and taken into the custody of the Highway Police. He confirmed that the process of sending the body of the deceased woman to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy is under process after preparing the post-mortem report.
