Various species of fish are on display at the nearly 200-year-old traditional Paush Sankranti fish fair in Sherpur, Moulvibazar. Along with other fish, large-sized baghair, bowal, rui, katal, mrigal, carp and other species of fish are on display at the fair. There are also various species of small domestic fish at the fair.

A vendor is asking for 85,000 taka for a large bowal fish that came to the fair. Another vendor is asking for 55,000 taka for a 40-kg katal fish. Another vendor is asking 55,000 taka for a 40-kg baghair fish on the Kushiyara River.

Organizers said that vendors have brought fish from different parts of the country to this traditional fish fair on the banks of the Kushiyara River in Sherpur. Sales are also good at the fair. The fair will continue until Wednesday, January 14.

Fish vendor Md. Rafiq Ali said, the vendors have brought fish from rivers and haors to the fair. The eyes of the buyers are on small indigenous fish species. The fair has different sizes of fish including bowal, rui, katla, chital, mrigel, carp, baghair. The prices have also been reduced due to the arrival of large quantities of fish. The buyers who come to the fair are also expressing satisfaction at being able to buy fish at low prices.

Roni Mia, who came to buy fish, said, this fair is a tradition of our area. We wait every year for the fair to start. Because many rare species of fish come to the fair. Which are not seen much except at the fair.

In addition, the fair has various types of food hotels, various food shops, cosmetics, clothes, cosmetics, as well as various types of food items and agricultural machinery, including various kinds of products. Buyers and visitors come to the fair from different places in Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sylhet.
