A person injured in a truck accident in Nazirbazar of South Surma upazila of Sylhet has died. He died at a private hospital in Sylhet city around 8 pm on Wednesday (January 15).
Earlier on Wednesday morning, a reckless truck crashed into a shop in Nazirbazar. Three people standing in front of the shop were injured. Among them, Shafiq Ali (55), who was seriously injured, died. He is the son of the deceased Rashid Ali of Chanditiyor village in Osmaninagar upazila (adjacent to Nazirbazar) of Sylhet. Shafiq worked as a daily wage laborer.
Officer-in-charge of South Surma police station Md. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the death. He said, the driver fled after the incident, abandoning the truck. Police are trying to arrest him. The truck is in our custody. Shafiq Ali’s body has been handed over to his relatives on the family’s request.
Eyewitnesses said that a recklessly speeding truck (Dhaka Metro. T 24-7117) coming towards Sylhet lost control and entered the Tandoori restaurant in Nazirbazar around 8:30 am on Wednesday. At that time, the truck twisted and turned a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw standing in front of the restaurant. The auto-driver and two people standing in front of the restaurant were injured. Among them, Shafiq Ali, who was seriously injured, died in the hospital on Wednesday night.
