Former councilor and panel mayor of Sylhet City Corporation, Rezaul Hasan Qays Lodi, said, Pitha is an integral part of our heritage, which keeps us connected to our roots. Such an event plays a special role in showcasing our heritage to the new generation as well as awakening cultural consciousness.
Through Pitha, we celebrate not only our food culture, but also mutual harmony and unity. Such an event is a beautiful initiative to connect our culture with the urban lifestyle. This is not just a festival, it is a platform where we get an opportunity to preserve our heritage and teach it to the future generations. I believe, this festival will play a unique role in the development of Sylhet’s heritage and culture.
He said these things at the inauguration ceremony of the Winter Pitha Festival held at Students’ Home School yesterday, Saturday. There were 30 pitha stalls at the festival organized on the school campus.
The program was presided over by Emdadul Haque Milon and special guests at the program were – Mr. Md. Shamsul Kabir, Associate Professor and Head of Department, North East University Bangladesh, and Dr. Engineer M., Professor, King Fahd University of Saudi Arabia. Mizanur Rahman, Vice-President of Private School Association and Coordinator of Sylhet Ideal College Md. Shamsuddoha, Vice-President of Private School Association and Principal of Knowledge Harbor School Nazmul Ansari, Vice-General Secretary of Private School Association and Vice of London Grace School Principal Md. The Pitha Festival turned into a gathering with the presence of people from different classes and professions. Guests were entertained with various types of pitha. The guests welcomed the organization of the Pitha Festival to bridge the gap between people and pitha in the brick and wooden cage of the city.
A huge crowd of people of all ages gathered on the occasion of the Pitha Festival. There were also young and old students in various costumes. The entire festival became lively with the rhythm of songs and dances. The entire school campus was filled with the fragrant aroma of various types of pitha.
In his speech as the chief guest, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi praised the pitha festival and congratulated the school authorities and teachers. At that time, he told the parents that now every home has a mobile phone. Everyone should be aware of the use of this mobile phone. Especially, parents should feel comfortable giving mobile phones to their children. We should always try to keep them away from this small device.
