A woman was killed and two others were injured in a Sylhet-Tamabil highway accident. The deceased woman is Jumara Begum, wife of Dulal Ahmed of Barban area of Kanaighat upazila.
The incident took place on Tuesday (February 18) in front of Umonpur Government Primary School on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway in Jaintapur upazila at around 7:30 pm.
According to local sources, a passenger bus bound for Jaflong collided head-on with a gas-powered autorickshaw CNG bound for Sylhet on Tuesday.
The CNG-powered autorickshaw overturned. The female passenger in the autorickshaw was killed at the time.
The deceased woman’s son Meherab and CNG driver Nurul Islam were injured in the accident. However, their condition is out of danger, the Highway Police said.
According to Highway Police sources, a Jaflong-bound passenger bus (Dhaka Metro- B-14-2099) and a Sylhet-bound CNG-powered autorickshaw (Sylhet-Th-12-8873) collided head-on on Tuesday (February 18) at around 7:30 pm. The injured were rescued by locals and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Jumara Begum dead.
Tamabil Highway Police In-charge Mohammad Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said that the Highway Police immediately reached the spot after receiving the information. He also said that the police are in the process of handing over the body to the family after preparing the post-mortem report of the deceased. The fatal bus has already been seized and brought into police custody.
