Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident of vandalizing a shop and attacking a young woman in an attempt to destroy communal harmony in Barelekha of Moulvibazar district.

On Wednesday (February 26) night, these three people named Ahmed Mustafa Tofail (19), Shafiqul Islam Adil (30) and Naeem Ahmed (24) were arrested in connection with the attack on a group of young people and vandalizing a shop at a fast food shop called Tasty Treat in Barelekha.

According to police sources, at 11 pm on Wednesday, two Hindu youths named Vilas Das and Prashant Pal entered the Tasty Treat fast food shop in Barelekha Bazar along with two Muslim young women they knew for breakfast. At that time, 3/4 members of an organization called Protect Our Sisters who were present at that shop arrested them. Later, 20/25 more unruly youths of that organization came there and made objectionable comments about those youths, claiming that they were doing anti-social activities, and recorded their videos and spread them on social media. During this time, they beat them, including the child in the girl’s lap, and snatched the money in the girl’s bag.

Upon receiving the news, members of the Baralekha police station and the army immediately arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control and rescued the victims and brought them to the police station. After the police rescued the victims and brought them to the police station, the agitated members of the Protect Our Sisters organization attacked and vandalized the Tasty Treat fast food shop.

Superintendent of Police M.K.H. Jahangir Hossain PPM said, ‘A group of people are systematically trying to destroy our communal harmony. But Moulvibazar District Police is vigilant in this regard.’

Officer-in-Charge of Barolekha Police Station Abul Kashem Sarkar said, a case has been registered in this incident based on the complaint of the victim. In addition, another separate case has been registered in the incident of vandalism of Tasty Treat fast food shop. We have already arrested three people. A drive is underway to arrest the remaining accused involved in the incident.
