A pickup carrying tea workers lost control and overturned in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, killing 2 workers and injuring 18 others.
The incident took place on Monday (March 3) afternoon near the Satgaon Tea Garden Factory on the Dhaka-Sylhet Regional Highway in Satgaon Union.
The deceased were Vishal (19), son of Sadhan of Amrail Tea Garden, and Hridoy Rabi Das (32), son of Ram Rabi Das. Another 18 were injured in the incident. Of these, 6 are said to be in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, 20 passengers were injured when the pickup lost control and overturned in the Bhanga area of the Dhaka-Sylhet Regional Highway on Monday morning. The injured were rescued by locals and immediately taken to the Srimangal Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Samrat Kishore Poddar, the on-duty medical officer of Srimangal Upazila Health Complex, told The Daily Morning Sun that 20 tea workers injured in the accident were brought to the hospital around 10:30 this morning. Of these, 8 were referred to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital as their condition was critical.
Ahmed Faisal Zaman, Resident Medical Officer of Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, said that 8 people injured in the accident in Srimangal were brought to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. Two died on the way to the hospital. Currently, 6 people are undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Satgaon Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saifur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that the seriously injured in the incident have been sent to the hospital and the pickup vehicle has been seized and brought to the Highway Police Station.
