Boro rice borer attack in Srimangal, Moulvibazar is worrying farmers. The attack of the borer cannot be stopped even by using pesticides. The green crops on the land have turned white due to the attack of a type of white long borer. In such a situation, farmers are helpless. They are not getting any remedy even after using various types of pesticides.
Scenes of the attack of the borer (borer) on rice (borer) were seen in various villages including Khoshbas, Tikaria, Jamsi, Bhunbir, Laiyakul in Ashidron Union of the local upazila. Most of the farmers have faced losses due to the attack of the borer. When talking to the farmers, they say that they will get 6 to 7 maunds less paddy per bigha. This has caused them losses.
According to the agricultural office, the target for planting Boro rice in 11,055 hectares of land has been set for the current Boro season. Boro rice has been planted in 11,850 hectares of land. The potential production of rice is 47,281 metric tons.
Amin Mia, a farmer from the Ashidron Khoshbash area of the upazila, said that this year the Boro rice seeds have been very good. I was very happy to see how the rice grew after planting the rice seedlings. But the attack of the white mealybug has ended everything.
Md. Shakir Ahmed, a farmer from the Ashidron Khoshbash area of the upazila, said that he had cultivated Boro rice on 210 acres of land at a cost of about 52,000 taka. He did not get any relief from the insects that attacked the land by applying various types of pesticides. The rice plants have dried up and turned white. He has suffered a lot of losses.
Farmer Bahar Ali of Loyarkul village in the upazila said that he cultivates Boro rice on 4 carats of land. When the rice was attacked by earworms, various pesticides were used to cure it. He lost his family’s food supply and was lost. The same situation was seen in the agricultural land of Sindurkhan Road in the suburbs. Farmer Abdullah Mia said that he cultivated Boro rice on about 2 carats of land to provide food for his family. Initially, he was happy to see the bumper yield of rice. Later, his land started turning white due to the attack of the insects. Now he is cutting half-ripened rice. He will not get even half of the rice from the land. He is worried about the food supply for his family.
Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Ujjal Sutradhar said that the Boro harvest has been good this year. Due to weather conditions, the rice is being cut by the earworm and earworm. They are advising to quickly cut the land where the rice has ripened and take it home and to use pesticides to control the insects in the semi-ripe rice land. They are also advising to keep water in the land. If there is water, it is possible to prevent the attack of insects.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Alauddin said, Boro has been cultivated on 11,850 hectares of land in the upazila this year. The yield has been good this year. Our field workers have given on-site advice to the farmers. Paddy harvesting has already started. Due to weather conditions, paddy has been attacked by thrips and ear-cutting insects in some areas.
