A pineapple seedlings distribution program has been inaugurated among farmers in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet organized by the Upazila Agricultural Extension Department.

The inaugural ceremony of this sapling distribution program was held at the Upazila Agricultural Office premises on Monday (April 21) at around 2 pm.

Jaintapur Upazila Executive Officer George Mitra Chakma was present as the chief guest and distributed pineapple seedlings among farmers. Jaintapur Upazila Agricultural Officer Shamima Akhter was also present at the time.

The Upazila Agricultural Extension Department informed that this sapling distribution program was held as part of the implementation of the local pineapple seedlings promotion program to increase pineapple production from the agricultural rehabilitation sector in the 2024-25 financial year.

In the first phase, forty-five thousand seedlings have been distributed among farmers in four unions of the upazila.

Also present at the inaugural ceremony of the sapling distribution were Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officer of the Upazila Agriculture Office Noman Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officer (Plant Conservation) Nurul Islam Khan, Mamunur Rashid, Saleh Ahmed, Shoaib Ahmed, Sanjida Israt, Habiba Begum, Khadija Sultana and local pineapple farmers.
