A man lost his life after getting stuck in a stone underwater while lifting stones in Jaflong, a tourist area of ​​Gowainghat, Sylhet.

The incident took place in the Piain River around 10:30 am on Monday (May 12).

The deceased has been identified as Rajab Ali (40), son of Rahmat Ullah of Baro Kona House in Madhya Jaflong area of ​​Gowainghat upazila.

It is learned that Rajab Ali of Baro Kona House in Madhya Jaflong area had been lifting stones by diving into the Piain River in Jaflong of Gowainghat upazila since Monday morning. He was repeatedly diving into the water from a boat to lift the stones. At one stage, he did not come up after diving into the water. Since he did not come up for a long time, the people with him searched for him and informed the police. The police went to the spot and recovered the body of the deceased.

Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tofail Ahmed confirmed the incident and said, “Rajab Ali died while diving into the Piain River in Jaflong on Monday morning while lifting stones. The body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital after preparing the post-mortem report. The family of the deceased has requested to take the body without an autopsy. The body will be handed over to the family after receiving instructions from the higher authorities.
