A truck loaded with Indian cumin, Red Bull and fuska smuggled into the country has been seized in a drive by the Sherpur Highway Police Station in Moulvibazar. The truck driver, Ratan Ali (23) from Salangar area of ​​Sirajganj, and helper Ariful Islam (30) have been arrested. The police have also seized the truck for carrying illegal goods.

On Friday, at around 10:30 pm, the cargo truck was seized in a drive by the patrol police of Sherpur Highway Police Station in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. Later, these Indian products were found inside the truck after a search.

According to various sources, import and export through all the country’s customs stations and land ports is closed due to the Indian ban. However, goods continue to be smuggled in by evading taxes.

Police said that on the night of May 23, a mini truck (Dhaka Metro Dr. 11-8444) was heading towards Dhaka carrying 125 sacks of cumin (3,750 kg), 4,320 cans of Red Bull and 520 packets of Fuska (each packet one kg) through a border in Sylhet.

After crossing the Sylhet section, the highway patrol police intercepted the truck at Sherpur Muktijoddha Chattar in Moulvibazar. At that time, the driver showed an auction invoice signed by the in-charge of the warehouse of Barachhara Customs Station in Sunamganj. When the invoice was found to be fake, the truck was seized and taken to the police station.

Then, the trailer was removed in the presence of Assistant Superintendent of Police of Sylhet Region of Highway Police Mirza Saiz Uddin, OC of Sherpur Police Station Abu Taher Dewan and other police officers. Later, the goods were recovered, whose estimated value is 28 lakh 46 thousand 500 taka. Highway Police Sergeant Samrat Hossain, Shishir Chandra Das, SI Syed Imrul Shahed and many others were present in the operation.

Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher Dewan confirmed the truth and said that the recovered stolen goods and the truck have been seized. A case has been filed in the name of the arrested persons at Moulvibazar Model Police Station. At the same time, the arrested persons have been handed over to the Model Police Station.
