After recovering Mayun Mia’s body, Moulvibazar District Police went to the field to unravel the mystery of the murder. Finally, the police have arrested Ripon Debnath (40), the main accused in the murder. The police have recovered the sharp knife used in the murder, the broken parts of the deceased’s mobile phone and the SIM card.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Nobel Chakma, PPM, gave this information at a press conference at the Moulvibazar District Police Superintendent’s office on Wednesday (July 16) afternoon.
He also said that the accused Ripon Debnath had been in a long-standing dispute with the victim Mayur Mia over interest money transaction. Ripon was angry that the money transaction agreement/stamp was not returned even after paying the interest. On the night of the incident, when the two returned home together from Deorachhara Bagan, Ripon demanded the return from Mayur Mia. At one stage of an argument and push between the two over the non-return of the stamp, Ripon took Mayur Mia to the edge of the Babonbil Chhatra. There, he first killed her by beating her with a hammer and punch, strangling her to death, and stabbed her three times with a sharp knife to ensure death and fled. Ripon then threw the knife into the toilet of his neighbor’s house in Sawtal, and broke the victim’s mobile phone and SIM card and threw them in the Hamidia Bagan.
It is worth noting that on the night of July 11, locals saw a body in the Babonbil Chhatra of Deorachhara Tea Garden and informed the police. The police immediately went to the spot, recovered the body, prepared an autopsy report and sent it to the Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
