A housewife was beaten to death in the Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station area of Sylhet city and then faked suicide. Finally, this sensational information came out during the police investigation. Later, the police arrested the killer husband, Safi Ahmed Chowdhury Sumon.

The incident took place on July 14 at around 10 pm.

It is learned that Sumon (48) randomly punched and kicked his wife Nishat Fatema Chowdhury (32) due to a family dispute. Nishat suffered serious injuries in various parts of her body. Later, between 4 am and 4:30 am on July 16, the accused husband called Nishat’s cousin and informed him that his wife had committed suicide.

Upon receiving the news, relatives quickly went to the scene and found Nishat’s lifeless body. However, the obvious injury marks and dark wounds on the forehead, neck, palms and arms of the deceased raised suspicions. The family alleged that the accused husband wanted to make the murder a suicide.

Shahparan (RA) Police Station became active after the incident. A police team arrived at the scene at 7/2 Rashid Manzil, Arambagh, around 9 am on July 16. SI Halima Akhter prepared a post-mortem report on the body and sent the body to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Later, the police arrested the deceased’s husband, Safi Ahmed Chowdhury Sumon. His permanent address is in Parachak village of Zakiganj upazila in Sylhet. He is the son of the deceased Mohiuddin Ahmed Chowdhury and Nadira Chowdhury. He was currently living with his wife at 7/2 Rashid Manzil, Arambagh.

Confirming the matter, SMP ADC (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “A murder case has been registered at Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station after the incident. Preparations are underway to send the accused to the learned court.”
