Israel is wreaking havoc in the blockaded Gaza. The country’s barbaric army has launched an all-out attack since March 18. Not only civilian installations, but also tent camps for displaced people are being bombed. On Sunday morning, fierce airstrikes were carried out on several displaced camps in Rafah and Khan Younis. The ground operation is ongoing, and the city of Rafah in southern Gaza was devastated by airstrikes before dawn. The ground operation began during the day, with artillery fire from Israel.
In the last 24 hours (until Sunday), 41 people have been killed and 61 injured. With this, the death toll in Gaza in the 17-month war has increased to 50,021 (as of 9 pm, the number will increase). 1,13,274 people have been injured. The spokesperson for the Gaza Health Ministry confirmed the matter to Jugantar on Sunday.
This afternoon, the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of a part of Rafah (the Tel al-Sultan area). Helpless locals are fleeing their ancestral homes in panic, packing their bags. But there is no escape even on the way to escape—Israeli drones are lurking. They are circling overhead repeatedly, dropping bombs.
Local Israeli media reported, ‘Tel Aviv will send more troops to Gaza within 48 hours. They are preparing.’ In such a situation, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has become more acute. For the past 24 days, Palestinians have not even been receiving the food aid necessary to save their lives.
“The crossings are closed, and my salary has been suspended since the beginning of the war… There is no food in Gaza,” said Said Abu al-Zidian, who fled his home in northern Gaza, saying: “Even in these inhumane times, Israeli forces bombed and killed a top Hamas political bureau leader in Khan Yunis, Gaza, on Saturday night. The leader who was killed was Salah al-Bardawil. He was a member of the Hamas political bureau. He was killed with his wife in a tent in the al-Mawasi area of the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis.
Hamas is ready to show the necessary flexibility to reach an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Representatives of the Palestinian movement made this known in a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Saturday.
The TASS news agency reported from Cairo that members of the Hamas delegation believe that it is important for Israel to abide by the ceasefire agreement. “Members of the Hamas delegation stressed that they believe it is essential for Israel to abide by the ceasefire agreement,” a press release posted on Hamas’ Telegram channel after talks in the Turkish capital said.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party called on Hamas on Saturday to cede power to protect the “existence” of Palestinians in Gaza. “Hamas must show compassion for the people of Gaza, children, women and men,” Fatah spokesman Manthir al-Hayek told AFP from Gaza, according to Arab News.
He added, “Hamas must step down from the regime and accept that if they remain in power in Gaza, this war will end the existence of the Palestinians.”
However, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said on Friday that he believed Hamas was “not ideologically stubborn” and that the crisis could be resolved through dialogue.
He also argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was acting “with good intentions.” He was acting in a situation where Israeli public opinion was more concerned with freeing the remaining prisoners held in Gaza than destroying Hamas.
