Two Child Students Drown While Fishing

Representative image. Two child students drowned while fishing in Juri, Moulvibazar. The incident occurred on Wednesday at 12:00 PM in Amtoil village under the West Juri Union of the upazila.

One of the deceased, Ananya Das (7), was the son of Amal Das of Amtoil village and a second-grade student. The other was Duryo Das (9), Amal Das’s nephew and the son of Narayan Das from Rajnagar Upazila; he was a fourth-grade student.

The victims’ families and local Union Parishad (UP) member Babul Ahmad stated that Amal Das lives in Barlekha with his family but had returned home for a family event. His sister had also come to visit, bringing her son Duryo along. In the morning, Ananya and Duryo went fishing with rods under a culvert near the house and went missing. Later, a local resident cutting grass spotted them floating in the water. They were quickly rescued and taken to the Juri Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared them dead.

Confirming the incident, Sirajul Islam, Acting Chairman of West Juri Union Parishad, stated that as there were no complaints from anyone, the bodies were cremated according to religious rites with the administration’s permission.
