Former Supreme Court Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been sent to jail by the court.
When he appeared in the court of Alamgir Hossain of Sylhet Judicial Magistrate-1 at 4:10 pm on Saturday, the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
No lawyer for the accused was present in the court. As the accused is a former judge, the court directed to grant facilities as per jail code.
Apart from this, the accused told the court that he is physically ill. The court took cognizance of this matter and ordered to give him treatment as per jail code. Sylhet District Police Court Inspector Jamshed Alam confirmed the matter.
He said that HM Shamsuddin Manik was arrested under section 54 and produced in the court. Later the court judge ordered to send him to prison.
Eyewitnesses said that many people threw eggs and shoes at former Justice Manik when he was produced in the court. At this time, some people also tried to attack. Later the police took him to the court with tight security.
Incidentally, BGB arrested former Justice Manik while fleeing illegally to India through Dana border of Kanighat upazila of Sylhet at around 11:30 on Friday night.
Later on Saturday morning, members of Sylhet’s Kanighat Dana border BGB camp handed him over to Kanighat police station. Police said that a case has been registered against him.
