In one case after another in Sylhet, all influential Awami League leaders including the former minister-MP of the newly deposed Awami League government are accused. In another case of Sylhet, the accused is a former state minister, mayor and an MP of Sylhet.
It has been reported that a case has been filed in the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate 1st Court on charges of attack on court point area of Sylhet city on August 4 (Sunday), the day before the fall of the government on August 5.
On Tuesday (August 27), Babul Mia, son of deceased Siraj Mia of Arambagh area of the metropolis, filed the case as the plaintiff.
In the case, he named 41 people including former state minister and president of Sylhet district Awami League Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, former mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, former MP of Sylhet-3 Constituency Habibur Rahman Habib. 250-300 unidentified people have been accused in this.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Abdul Qayyum confirmed the filing of the case. He said that a case has been filed in the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate 1st Court under the Speedy Trial Act. The court took cognizance of the case and ordered the Kotwali Model Police Station to investigate.
