In a statement sent in ‘strong language’ from the office of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Islamabad said that it rejected India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty.
The statement also said that any attempt to stop the water or divert it will be considered an ‘incitement of war’.
The statement also mentioned that it will be responded to with the full force of national power.
At the same time, it has decided to suspend all bilateral agreements with India. Pakistan has announced the immediate closure of the Wagah border. In addition, Pakistan has suspended all visas issued under the ‘Visa-Free Scheme’ for Indian citizens.
The Indian High Commission in Islamabad has been asked to reduce the number of diplomats to 30 and Indian defence, naval and aviation advisers have been asked to leave Pakistan by April 30.
It has closed its airspace to Indian-owned or operated airlines. All trade with India has been suspended.
Earlier, India had suspended all types of visa services for Pakistani citizens, including Indian medical visas. In a statement on Thursday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that all valid Indian visas already issued to Pakistani citizens will be cancelled from next Sunday.
The statement said that Pakistani citizens who have Indian visas will be given 72 hours to leave India. Along with the cancellation of visas, India has also suspended all types of visa services for Pakistani citizens. As a result, Pakistani citizens will not be able to get any kind of document to travel to India.
Meanwhile, India took five important decisions against Pakistan on Wednesday. The country’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri said that the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan is being suspended for the time being. This arrangement will remain in place indefinitely. The suspension of the agreement will affect the amount of water that Pakistan is supposed to get as a result of this decision.
The second important decision is to close the Attari-Wagah border. This important land border between India and Pakistan has been closed since Wednesday. All those who entered India through this border have been asked to return to India by May 1.
The third decision is to expel all military, naval and air advisors assigned to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. They have been declared undesirable. At the same time, New Delhi is bringing back Indian military officers assigned to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
The fourth decision says that in addition to closing the border posts and reducing the number of staff at the embassy, Pakistan is also temporarily stopping its entry into India. For this reason, it has been announced that SAARC visas for all Pakistanis have been canceled. Those who are in India on this visa have been given 48 hours to return.
The fifth decision is that the number of personnel working in the High Commissions of the two countries will be reduced from 55 to 30.
