The Bangladesh Judicial Employees Association has held a two-hour strike at the court premises in Sylhet on five demands, including the formation of a separate secretariat under the Supreme Court for the support staff of the judiciary, and payment of salaries and allowances to the employees of subordinate courts and tribunals in line with the Bangladesh Judicial Service salary scale.
The strike was held in front of the Sylhet District and Sessions Judge Court from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Monday (May 5). Employees of all levels of the courts in Sylhet participated in it.
The program was chaired by the President of the Sylhet District Branch of the Bangladesh Judicial Employees Association Md. Khairul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Md. Saiful Islam. The committee’s senior vice-presidents Rati Kanta Das, Azad Mia, advisor Md. Chayef Ahmed, Vice President Dipankar Pal, Organizing Secretary Faizul Islam, Vice President Kajjal Kanti Chakraborty, Shampa Bardhan, Ataur Rahman, Law Secretary Abul Hossain, etc.
President of the Judicial Employees Association Sylhet District Branch Md. Khairul Islam said, these demands are nothing new. We have been making these fair demands to the government for years. But the concerned authorities are not taking them into account. Therefore, we are going to the program under compulsion. We humbly request the government to accept our fair demands.
In addition, among the other demands of the organization were, inclusion in the 7th-12th grade after the 1st to 6th grade, creation of time-appropriate posts by abolishing the existing block posts, and the formulation of independent appointment rules with opportunities for promotion based on merit and seniority.
