Shamim Ahmed (45), the mastermind behind the robbery at three establishments in Moulvibazar, has been arrested. The arrested Shamim Ahmed has given a confessional statement in court that he was involved in the robbery.

According to police sources, on February 3 of this year, 48 thousand taka was looted from the Ekmi Pharmaceutical Company depot in Moulvibazar. Then, on February 23, 68 lakh taka was looted from the Beximco Company depot and finally, on May 10, 08 lakh taka was looted from the Orion Company depot. Cases were registered at Moulvibazar Sadar Police Station in all the incidents. Moulvibazar Sadar Police Station started working immediately after the first incident.

A special team was formed under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police of Sadar Circle Md. Ajmal Hossain, along with the officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station, SI Jayant Sarkar, SI Hiron Biswas, SI Utpal Saha, SI Rana Mia, ASI Saidur Rahman. With the help of CCTV camera footage, secret sources and information technology, on May 17 at approximately 3:30 am, the main mastermind of this gang, Shamim Ahmed, was arrested in Paschim Bhadeshwar village of Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district. Earlier, one of his associates named Mukit Mia was arrested.

After the arrest, the accused Shamim Ahmed was brought on a 4-day remand and handed over to the learned court after interrogation. On May 22, he gave a confessional statement in the learned court about his involvement in the robbery incident.

The arrested Shamim is the son of the deceased Siraj Ali of Teghria village of Habiganj Sadar upazila.

A Noah microbus bought for 1.3 million taka and a Pulsar motorcycle used in the robbery were recovered from the custody of arrested Shamim Mia. In addition, the sneakers, electric cutter and hexablade used by them have been seized.

Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gazi Md. Mahbubur Rahman said, “We started working right after the incident. After the initial investigation, we first arrested Mukit Mia. With the help of questioning him and information technology, we were able to arrest the mastermind Shamim.” He added that this gang has been committing such crimes in the Sylhet region for a long time. Three years ago, the accused Shamim was arrested from Dhaka in the Osmaninagar Police Station area of ​​Sylhet for breaking into an ATM booth and looting money. We are working to arrest the remaining members of this gang.
