A joint operation by the Army and BGB in Sylhet has seized coffee worth about Tk 7 million. Smugglers had smuggled the coffee from India.
The consignment of Indian goods was seized during a raid in the Sarighat area of the Jaintapur border in Sylhet on Friday night.
A BGB 19 Battalion statement said that based on a secret tip-off, the Army and BGB members found a large quantity of abandoned Indian coffee in the Sarighat area. The smugglers had abandoned the coffee and fled. The market value of the seized 1,928 kg of coffee is about Tk 6,994,400, according to the BGB.
