Smuggled goods worth Tk 1.27 crore have been seized from the border area in a special operation by Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).
On Tuesday (July 15), based on a secret information, members of 48 BGB under Sylhet Sector conducted a raid in the border areas of Sangram, Tamabil, Bichnakandi, Pratappur, Damdamiya and Utma BOP. A large quantity of Indian products — sarees, skin bright cream, betel nut, sugar, bidi, cumin, tomatoes, soap, eyeball candy, move cream, Derobin ointment, chocolate, motorcycles, liquor and beer — were seized in the raid.
The Caesar value of the seized goods is estimated at Tk 1.27 crore 85 thousand 690. Confirming the matter, the commander of the Sylhet Battalion said, “Our intelligence activities and regular operations to prevent smuggling at the border are continuing. This operation is also a part of that.” The BGB has informed that further legal action is being taken regarding the seized goods as per the rules.
