Current issues will not affect trade with India, said Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. He also said that there will be relief in the prices of essential commodities in the coming month of Ramadan.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists after the meeting of the Secretariat’s Government Procurement Advisory Council Committee today, Wednesday.
Will there be any problem in trade with India due to the current issues? In response to such a question, the Financial Advisor said, politics does not come into our commercial issues with India. Whether or not to import rice from India is not a matter of concern. We will take from those who offer it at a competitive price, quickly and with quality. It can be India or different countries. I am talking to India and Myanmar. I am talking to Vietnam. Politics will not enter into these matters.
A politician from West Bengal has said that he will not export anything to Bangladesh. Are you doing diplomatic negotiations? When asked such a question by journalists, Salehuddin Ahmed said, diplomats will see that. India produces rice and onions, where will it sell when there is excess?
In response to a question about the prices of daily necessities, the financial advisor said, I do not agree that they are not stable at all. The prices of goods are decreasing a little. Today we have decided to import rice and lentils. Both of these are food items. We have approved this before too.
He said, we have talked about the future. The price of soybean oil has increased a lot, we have discussed how to bring it in, how much. In the meantime, imports are happening. We have reduced the duty on everything. So be patient.
