The government has appointed four more people as state prosecutors to the International Crimes Tribunal. One of them has been given the rank of Additional Attorney General, two have been given the rank of Deputy Attorney General and one has been given the rank of Assistant Attorney General.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification on Wednesday appointing four people as prosecutors. The notification said that the order will be effective immediately.
The newly appointed prosecutors are Md. Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar (with the rank of Additional Attorney General), Shahidul Islam Sardar and Faruk Ahmed (with the rank of Deputy Attorney General) and Hasanul Banna (with the rank of Assistant Attorney General).
Earlier, four prosecutors of the International Crimes Tribunal, including the Chief Prosecutor, were appointed on September 5. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam, who was the lawyer for the Jamaat leaders convicted in the same tribunal, was appointed as the chief prosecutor. Later, several more were appointed as prosecutors.
In addition, Toby Cadman, joint head of the London-based Guernica 37 law firm, was appointed as special advisor to the tribunal’s chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam.
