As Middle East politics moves towards the threat of another war, Yemen launched a ‘Zulfiqar ballistic missile’ attack on the occupied Jaffa, a suburb of Tel Aviv, Israel.

This was announced in a statement on Friday by Brigadier General Yahya Sari, spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces.

Yemen launched this missile attack at a time when just a few hours earlier, US forces carried out airstrikes on several ports in the coastal city of Hodeidah in Yemen. At least 74 people were killed and 171 were injured. The Yemeni forces announced a coordinated military operation in response to the attack.

Yahya Sari said, “We conducted a joint military operation, in which we targeted two US aircraft carriers—Truman and Vinson.”

The Yemeni Defense Ministry also reported shooting down a US MQ-9 drone in Sana’a province.

The US has used these drones to intensify its covert surveillance in the Middle East. At the same time, they have also made their attacks regular.

However, the growing capabilities of Yemen’s independent defense system indicate a new military balance in the region.
