Azmi’s statement on changing the national anthem is his personal: Jamaat Secretary

Rangpur Correspondent //

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that former army officer Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi’s statement demanding the change of the national anthem is personal. Abdullahil Aman Azmi is not a member of Jamaat-e-Islami. So what he said about changing the national anthem is his personal comment. Jamaat-e-Islami is not responsible for its explanation.

He said this in response to questions from journalists after a discussion program at a hotel in Rangpur city on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, he spoke as the chief guest at the meeting and condolence exchange ceremony with the families of those killed in the anti-discrimination movement.

Prof. Mia Golam Parwar said that in the statement given by 48 prominent citizens of the country, “Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami advised the nation to forget everything from the past”, but he said that the Amir of Jamaat did not say such a thing. So the Jamaat will not react to such a statement – added this central leader.

The Jamaat secretary said that reform of the country is now the biggest challenge. In the last 15 years, the allies of fascism have been lurking in the holes of the state apparatus. The Constitution should be reformed, the Election Commission should be reformed. Our constitutional institutions have been partisan in the last 15 years, they need to be reformed.

In response to another question from the journalists, he said, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently mentioned the need to build unity among all political parties to protect the sovereignty of the country in the instructions given to the Indian Army.

He said that in other countries of the world, all the political parties gathered on a platform to face the foreign threats to the national interest and sovereignty issues and formed a resistance against everyone. For the national interest of our country, it is important to forget all differences and establish consensus.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that the Jamaat wants to give the present government a reasonable time for the urgent reform activities required for the election system.

He said it will take a long time to clean up the mess of the last 15 years. While not all reforms are feasible for the interim government, the challenge now is to carry out the necessary reforms to ensure fair elections. He called on the interim government to organize an election by making the necessary reforms.

Amir of Mahanagar Jamaat ATM Azam Khan spoke on the occasion – Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Working Council Member Mahbubur Rahman Belal, District Amir of Jamaat Professor Golam Rabbani, Secretary Obaidullah Salafi, Secretary of Mahanagar camp Nurul Huda and other leaders spoke.

After the discussion program, Jamaat-e-Islami handed over the aid money to the family members of those killed in the quota reform student movement. Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Chhatrashibir were present along with family members of the deceased.
