Sheikh Hasina’s son Joy, Putul and Bobby’s bank accounts have been seized

The bank accounts of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed (Jay) and daughter Saima Wazed (Putul) and Sheikh Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddiqui (Bobby) have been ordered to be seized (suspended).

Along with these three members of the Sheikh family, the bank accounts of the former Minister of State for Power Nasrul Hamid (BPU) and Awami League’s Center for Research and Information (CRI) and CRI-Young Bangla Project have also been ordered to be seized. The bank accounts of three members of the Sheikh family and the former state minister for power have been seized in connection with CRI.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of the Central Bank of Bangladesh has sent this directive to various banks and financial institutions of the country on Monday to seize bank accounts.

As a result of this instruction, all transactions of these accounts will be closed. The national identity card and date of birth of these persons have been mentioned in the letter.

According to the BFIU directive, if any account is maintained in the name of the said persons and their privately owned entities, the transactions in those accounts shall be suspended for 30 days under Section 23(1)(c) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 and the use of lockers, if any, in their name. A 30-day closure was ordered.

After the political change on August 5, various ministers of the former government are being arrested. Along with that many bank accounts have been seized. In that continuation, three members of the Sheikh family and CRI-related bank accounts have been ordered to be seized.
