The chief advisor to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has again called on South Asian countries to activate the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

He made this call while meeting a delegation of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Oncology (SFO) on Thursday (December 12). The chief advisor joined the meeting through video conference from his residence in Jamuna. This information was given in a press release sent by the chief advisor’s press wing.

Stating that South Asian countries will benefit from activating SAARC, the chief advisor said, SAARC is particularly important to me. I spoke about activating SAARC soon after taking oath as the chief advisor. SAARC is not being active on some issues between India and Pakistan.

He said, I think that the problems between the two countries should not affect other countries. If South Asian leaders meet every year, stand together and take pictures together, then we are together, the message goes to the world. This will present South Asian countries to the world in a positive way and help them move forward.

The Chief Advisor paid tribute to the contribution of Professor Dr. ABMF Karim, founder of the SAARC Federation of Oncologists (SFO) and mentioned his experience of personal interaction with him.

At this time, Dr. Yunus remembered his younger brother, television personality Muhammad Jahangir. He spoke about the suffering his entire family had to go through during his brother’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. At that time, the Chief Advisor also mentioned how Dr. Karim helped him in his treatment.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, “We are still not getting the technical support we need in cancer treatment. The special emphasis that SAARC is giving to cancer treatment is very urgent and inspiring.”
