Dhaka //
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that both reforms and elections are necessary for qualitative change in the state, politics and political parties. The opportunity that people get to exercise their voting rights through elections, which ensures the political power of the state and the people, is what ensures the political power of the state and the people.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 46th founding anniversary of Chhatra Dal at the Engineers Institution in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said that from some quarters, BNP and all patriotic political parties consider such questions as reforms or elections as mere arguments with malicious intent. Rather, BNP believes that both reforms and elections are necessary for qualitative change in state politics and political parties. Reforms are an inevitable continuous process to make the existing system timely. Similarly, elections are the most important and effective way to make the democratic system sustainable and Pakistani.
He said, BNP believes that unless the political and economic power of the people in the state is ensured, democracy, human rights or textbook reforms are ultimately not sustainable. The interim government has undertaken several important reform programs. Reform programs are definitely necessary. For this reason, the interim government may have undertaken many major reforms in their eyes. However, if the daily misery of the people continues to increase behind these reform programs, the people may be forced to open their mouths about the government’s reforms. Already, the question has arisen in the minds of the people, what steps has the government taken to break the market syndicate created during the runaway dictatorship and bring it within the purchasing power of the people? Why are people still having to rush to the courthouse in millions of cases filed during the fascist era?
He also said that if the interim government shows failure in their reforms or adopted plans, the conspirators will take the opportunity to destroy the spirit of the 2024 mass uprising. In the meantime, they have made several attempts to create an unstable environment in the country.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present as a special guest at the discussion chaired by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib. The discussion was moderated by the organization’s General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. BNP central leaders and former Chhatra Dal leaders spoke at the meeting.
