Motorcyclist killed after being hit by bus on Sylhet-Tamabil highway

A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a Jaflong-bound Gatelock service bus in the area adjacent to Umanpur in Jaintapur upazila on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway.

According to Highway Police sources, on Wednesday (January 8) at 12 noon, Rumel Ahmed was returning home on a motorcycle (Comilla-L-14-0296) with one of his classmates when they reached the Chiknagul Umanpur turning point when a Jaflong-bound Gatelock service bus coming from the opposite direction hit them, causing the motorcyclists to suffer an accident. Locals rescued them and sent them to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Rumel Ahmed (23) died on the way to the hospital. The deceased Rumel is the son of Hossain Ahmed of Panichhara village in Chiknagul union of the upazila. The identity of the other injured person is not known.

When the locals blocked the road in this incident, the highway police and local public representatives assured them that the road was cleared. However, the locals stopped the movement of ordinary buses and gatelock service buses.

Tamabil Highway Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Habibur Rahman told The Daily Morning Sun that the deadly bus has been seized and taken into police custody. He confirmed that necessary steps are being taken, including preparing a post-mortem report of the deceased.
