Golapganj (Sylhet) Correspondent //

An environmental worker was attacked in Golapganj, Sylhet. The attackers beat him up on Thursday morning. Later, on Friday morning, they went to the environmental worker’s house and vandalized it. When the police got the news, the attackers fled. Tension prevailed in the village of Dakshin Lakshipasha in the upazila over the incident. Hafiz Jamil Ahmed, a member of the environmental organization ‘Banchao’, is undergoing treatment at Osmani Hospital after being injured. The family of the environmental worker is in panic over the incident.

It is learned that a gang had been cutting and selling the top soil of the land for a long time. Jamil Ahmed told Khaled, Shahed, Tarek and Rubel that cutting soil in this way was harmful to the environment and that people would have difficulty moving around in the dust. They were causing serious damage to the environment by cutting soil without paying attention to these things. Jamil even informed them about the matter over the mobile phone. Hafiz Jamil Ahmed had repeatedly told them not to harm the environment in this way.

The gang, instead of listening to him, was cutting soil and causing serious damage to the environment. On Thursday afternoon, Hafiz Jamil was sitting in his shop and running his business. At that time, he appealed not to carry soil in this way with tractors and not to harm the environment. Immediately after saying this, Khaled, Shahed and their associates attacked him. At that time, they stabbed him and threatened that if he went too far, he would also cause serious damage to the environment. When his elder brother Momen saw him being beaten, they also beat him up. At that time, Shahed was injured in a scuffle between the people of the area.

Later, Maulana Jamil Ahmed was admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital in a seriously injured condition by his relatives. He is currently undergoing treatment in a ward on the 4th floor of Osmani Hospital. The attackers seriously injured his eyes and his brother’s hands and feet.

After Jamil was injured in this incident on Friday, the police station was delayed in filing a case. When the family members were busy with his treatment, Khaled Ahmed and his family members attacked their house with some villagers on Friday morning. The attackers also beat up the female members of the family. They even broke the tin and gate of the house. They entered and looted. When the police reached the spot after receiving the information, the attackers fled.

Al Amin, brother of injured Maulana Hafiz Jamil Ahmed, said, we have a shop in the area. They are three brothers who run this shop. Jamil Ahmed gives us time occasionally.

He said that his brother Jamil is always a bit of a protester. If there is any damage to the environment, he takes it upon himself to raise awareness. Because of this, the attackers were very angry with him. As we were busy with Jamil’s treatment at the hospital, there was a delay in filing a case at the police station. They took this opportunity to file a complaint at the police station. They even attacked our house in the morning. They beat up my sick sister and mother. In addition, the attackers caused a lot of damage to us. We want justice for this incident.

In this regard, Golapganj Police Station OC Molla Monir told The Daily Morning Sun that the police rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Further action will be taken if anyone files a case.
