Khandaker Abdul Muktadir (MP), Minister of Commerce, Industries, and Textiles & Jute, stated that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) embodies the hopes and aspirations of people from all walks of life in Bangladesh. Party leaders and activists at all levels have always remained on the streets—even in adverse conditions—and will continue to do so in the future. While individuals might occasionally pop up in various corners of the country just to pose for photos before vanishing in the blink of an eye, the people of this nation—ranging from students, youths, and young men and women to people of all ages and even ordinary schoolchildren—have taken to the streets to bid them a permanent farewell. There is no longer any room for injustice or irregularities in the holy land of Sylhet.

He noted that for a long time following independence, the city lacked adequate, designated spaces for people to walk about freely. An aesthetically pleasing, international-standard park will be constructed on the 10.5-acre site of the old Sylhet Jail, alongside a well-curated museum. A mega-project worth approximately Tk 4,000 crore has been undertaken to resolve the city’s long-standing problem of waterlogging. He also extended his sincere congratulations and gratitude to Party Chairman Tarique Rahman for approving the new committees for the Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jubo Dal.

He made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon (September 22) while addressing a rally as the chief guest at the historic Registry Ground. The rally, organized by the Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jubo Dal, was held to protest against attempts to destabilize the country through orchestrated acts of terror.

Special guests who spoke at the event included Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) and President of Sylhet District BNP; Nasim Hossain, President of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP; Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP; and Siddiqur Rahman Paplu, Joint General Secretary of Sylhet District BNP. Presided over by Sylhet District Jubo Dal President Mohammad Maksud Ahmad and jointly moderated by District General Secretary Abdus Salam Tipu and Metropolitan General Secretary Dilwar Hossain Dinar, the event featured speeches from: Metropolitan Jubo Dal President Mirza Mohammad Samrat; District Jubo Dal Senior Vice-President Koyes Ahmad and Vice-President Maksudul Karim Nuhel; Metropolitan Jubo Dal Senior Vice-President Emdadul Haque Swapan; District Jubo Dal Senior Joint General Secretary Masrur Russell; Metropolitan Jubo Dal 1st Joint General Secretary Tahsin Mehedi Prince; District Chhatra Dal Acting President Zuber Ahmad; Metropolitan Chhatra Dal President Sudip Jyoti Esh; District Jubo Dal Organizing Secretary Habibul Bashar Habib; and Metropolitan Organizing Secretary Hossain Ahmad.

Additionally, a large number of Jubo Dal leaders and activists from 13 upazilas, 5 municipalities, 42 metropolitan wards, and 6 police stations were present.

In his presidential address, Sylhet District Jubo Dal President Mohammad Maksud Ahmad said, “Since August 5th, we once again hear some street urchins claiming that ‘Apa’ (Madam) will return in December! We, too, wholeheartedly want her to return—because we still have many scores to settle with you. You unjustly imprisoned our mother-like leader and forcibly disappeared our beloved leader, M. Ilias Ali. Dear friends, be prepared! Build strongholds in every neighborhood. Smash and demolish every den of the fascists. We shall meet on the streets.”
