A 15-day process of verifying the learning deficit of students has been completed in primary schools in Sreemangal and Kamalganj of Moulvibazar. Through which it has been revealed that an average of 25 to 30 percent of students in this district have learning deficits. The Primary Education Department said that they will be educated with extra care for the next 4 months. They also said that this is a milestone action plan of the current interim government.

At the initiative of the Education Department of the current interim government, the learning status of students and the learning deficit monitoring program were started from July 1st with the aim of improving the quality of students in all government primary schools in the country. Which will end on July 16.

On the spot, it was seen that the process of verifying the learning deficit of students is going on in schools. Teachers are checking the quality of students by first writing in Bangla, English and Mathematics, then asking different questions one by one and reading.

Jhumi Rani Sarkar, assistant teacher at Chimailot Primary School in Srimangal Sindurkhan Union, said that through this, the learning status and learning deficits of students from 3rd to 5th grade are verified on Bengali, English and Mathematics subjects through baseline tools under the guidance of the Department of Primary Education.
She said, “Before, we had some idea about good and weak students, but we did not determine their quality one by one. Now, through this learning deficit verification process, we can write it down. According to this evaluation sheet, we can work towards their development.” She said, “We will take care of them and we will also be able to inform the parents of the students about the matter.”
Saima Akhter, a fourth grade student, said that her teachers first took written tests on English, Mathematics and Bengali subjects and then took oral tests. They liked doing this. However, I started studying the subjects that I could not do at home.
Lovely Rani De, the head teacher of the same school, said that in this special assessment, it was found that about 30 percent of the students cannot read correctly, no one can pronounce, and no one can write correctly. Which is recorded in the record form.
Teacher Lipimani Goala said that the Department of Primary Education has arranged a level-based assessment of each student’s learning status and learning deficit in Bangla, English and Mathematics of government primary school students from grades 1 to 5 through baseline tools. This is a groundbreaking initiative of the current government.

Nazma Begum, the head teacher of Srimangal Yogendra Model Government Primary School, said that this program has already been completed in our school. Weaknesses have been found in about 25 percent of the students. She said that our program has already been inspected by the district and upazila primary education officers.

Srimangal Primary Teachers Association General Secretary Kalyan Dev said that for the past 15 days, we have been checking the quality of the students according to the prescribed rules while organizing the festival and recording it. We will start working to improve their quality in the near future as per the advice of the Primary Education Department.

Srimangal Upazila Primary Education Officer Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Morning Sun that through this program, it has been revealed that 65-70 percent of students can write and read correctly, while the remaining 30-35 percent of students have learning deficits at various levels. Many of these students cannot write correctly. They will be worked on for 4 months to eliminate this deficit and will be re-examined in November to see if they have passed.
Moulvibazar District Primary Education Officer Md. Shafiul Alam said that this deficit will be eliminated within the next four months by the Education Department, teachers and guardians. He said that this is a milestone decision of the current interim government to determine the learning position and monitor learning deficits and implement the action plan for improving the quality of all government primary school students using assessment tools designed to improve the quality of the students. He said that he visited some school almost every day to see this program. Many students have been re-verified by themselves.

In this regard, Director (Policy and Operations) of the Department of Primary Education Kamrul Hasan said that arrangements have been made to evaluate students from first to fifth grade using assessment tools from July 1 to July 16 across the country. He said, some cannot read properly, some cannot pronounce, some cannot write using the correct scale, they will be identified and developed through these baseline tools. For this, weak students will get time till October 30. They will be final verified from November 1 to November 30. Advocates have welcomed this special program of the interim government to improve the standards of students.
