Allama Nurul Islam Olipuri, president of Islami Sangram Parishad, has called for a movement to demand the removal and punishment of Lakhai Upazila Education Officer Mahmudul Haque in protest of insulting veils and harassing many school teachers.
If the officer is not removed and brought under punishment soon – he announced the Durbar movement across the district from ‘Sunday’. He announced this movement in the presence of Islamic Struggle Parishad Habiganj district leaders and prominent ulema of the district on Friday.
Allama Nurul Islam Olipuri said, veil is a mandatory rule of Islam. No man can make a mockery of this obligatory provision. A government official who harasses schoolgirls for wearing veils and forces them to open veils has no constitutional right to do so. Therefore, if the demands of the agitating conscious civil society are not met, a Durbar movement will be organized across Habiganj district from next Sunday.
He also said that Islami Sangram Parishad Habiganj is declaring solidarity with the big movement called by conscious civil society next Sunday.
It is to be noted that, recently, an unstable situation has been created in Lakhai due to the harassment of several women teachers against education officer Mahmudul Haque and taunting about hijab, a mandatory requirement of Islam. The public is outraged. A memorandum has been submitted to the District Commissioner demanding his punishment.
