A garden meeting was held in the haor area to create public awareness against bird hunting and bird hunters.

Jamil Mohammad Khan, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, was the chief guest at the meeting organized by the conscious locals in Paschim Baraura of Srimangal Upazila on Wednesday (December 11).
Also present were BanglaNews Divisional Senior Correspondent and Environment and Nature Journalist Biswajit Bhattacharya Bapan, Wildlife Junior Scout Md. Tajul Islam and Subrata Sarkar, while Rokam Uddin, President of Maasranga Cooperative Society, social worker Tahir Mia, Peer Ali, former President of Baragangina Sampada Sangha, businessman Selim Mia, and others were present on behalf of the locals.

Biswajit Bhattacharya Bapan, a journalist on environment and nature, said, “In addition to creating awareness against bird hunting, turtles are now suddenly found due to the drying up of the haorbil. Fishermen catch them and sell them to some of the traditional communities. If we can also create awareness about this to protect the endangered turtle species, then its extraction from the bill and sale can be stopped to a large extent.”

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Jamil Mohammad Khan said in his speech, “Birds are the wealth of nature. The wealth of the country. If birds survive, our nature will be protected. Therefore, birds must be kept alive at any cost. Migratory birds come to our country in winter. Our nature is filled with their chirping. Those who hunt and kill birds to destroy this beauty must refrain from this legally punishable act. Otherwise, we will bring him or them under the law.

Referring to the health risks of bird meat, he said, eating the meat of birds hunted by bird hunters with toxic chemicals is also a serious risk to human health. The poison of those toxic chemicals enters the body of the bird. Then the human body is at great risk. Therefore, it is completely foolish to eat bird meat as a hobby and bring extreme danger to oneself.

ACF Jamil Mohammad Khan said that the sincere cooperation of bird lovers and conscious locals is expected to protect migratory birds in the Haor-Bill area and catch local bird hunters.
Expressed his opinion.
